Peace Wapiti Academy’s mission is to inspire a quest for learning for the benefit of the individual, community and society. Along with our strong commitment to academics, PWA also offers a wide variety of programming options such as Registered Apprenticeship Programs (RAP), Green Certificate Programs, General Learning Support Programs (GLSP) and Career and Technology Studies Programs (CTS).
In addition to a full range of courses for all students, a varied extra-curriculum program, encompassing a full range of sports and significant fine arts opportunities, is also offered at Peace Wapiti Academy, Home of the TITANS. Students may enhance their school experience and personal development by taking part in activities which include athletics (volleyball, football, basketball, cross-country running, badminton, track, and rugby), leadership, travel club, drama, art, cultural events and other club activities.
Parents of students who attend Peace Wapiti Academy are welcome to become involved and volunteer. Our School Council plays an integral role in shaping the culture of the school. Monthly meetings are well attended by parents who support the development of our community of learners and leaders. In addition, an organization called Acti-Parent coordinates fundraising opportunities for our school.
Peace Wapiti Academy is an extension of your community. Familiar faces will welcome you, reliable resources will support you and consistent values will reassure you. We are dedicated to the success of every student, preparing them for a future in any avenue they choose to pursue.
High School Redesign Key Structures
Five 65 minute class blocks scheduled each day.
iPLAN (Flex Block) is on the schedule daily for Grade 10-12 students and twice each week for Grade 9 students. This personal learning time puts students at the center of their own learning, empowering them to make choices related to how/when/where they complete the multitude of tasks set before them. This self-paced, self-regulated period of time allows students to get extra help, study, or pursue topics and activities that interest them. This time helps students balance the demands of school, extra-curricular activities, work and home life.
CONNECT is an independent study program, staffed and housed within PWA, which allows students the choice to extend or recover a course without having to start from the beginning. It also provides students the opportunity to engage in courses that are on the timetable, and some that are only offered through CONNECT, in an independent format with a PWA teacher as their facilitator.
AIM TEACHERS are established for every student at PWA. Upon registration, students are assigned an AIM (Academic and Individual Mentor) teacher who will follow them for their entire experience at our school. They act as an advocate for them and seek to build a personal relationship with them in order to support them.
